Youth Club Delivery Volunteer

Youth Club Delivery Volunteer

Do you enjoy working with young people and want to make a real difference in your community? Our vibrant Youth Centre in Gateshead is looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to support the delivery of our evening youth work sessions for 8–25 year olds. This is more than just lending a hand—your presence will help create a safe, welcoming space where young people can connect, have fun, and build confidence. Whether you’re supporting creative activities, encouraging participation, or simply being a positive role model, your contribution will help shape meaningful experiences for local youth.

As a Delivery Volunteer, you’ll work alongside our experienced staff team to ensure sessions run smoothly and safely. From helping maintain appropriate staff-to-young-person ratios, to assisting with activities, preparing food (where qualified), and supporting general upkeep, your role will be hands-on and varied. You might have a particular skill—like music, sports, or arts—that you’d love to share, or you may simply bring energy, empathy, and a willingness to get involved.

Join our welcoming team and gain valuable experience while giving back to your community. Delivery sessions run Monday to Thursday evenings, including: Music Club (Mondays 5.00–7.00pm), 8–12 Youth Club (Tuesdays 4.30–7.00pm), 13–17 Youth Club (Wednesdays 5.30–8.00pm), and 18–25 Youth Club (Thursdays 6.00–8.30pm). There is no minimum time commitment, but we do ask that volunteers are dependable and communicate clearly about their availability. Whether you’re looking to build a career in youth work or simply want to make a positive impact, we’d love to hear from you. Please note: This role requires an enhanced DBS check, and preference will be given to those already on the DBS Update Service. Come grow with us and turn your passion into a positive force for young people!

Purpose of the Role
The Delivery Volunteer plays a key role in supporting the safe and effective delivery of youth work sessions within the Youth Centre. Working under the guidance of Youth Workers, the volunteer will help create an engaging, inclusive environment where young people feel supported, respected, and able to participate fully in activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Session Support: Assisting staff in the delivery of youth sessions by helping to facilitate activities, encourage participation, and build positive relationships with young people.

  • Supervision and Safety: Supporting staff in maintaining appropriate ratios, supervising young people, and contributing to a safe and welcoming environment at all times.

  • Practical Tasks: Helping with general duties such as setting up and tidying away activities, cleaning shared spaces, and supporting basic kitchen tasks.

  • Food Preparation (where qualified): Assisting with the preparation and serving of food where a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate is held.

  • Collaboration: Working closely with Youth Workers and other volunteers, communicating effectively about session needs and any concerns that arise.

Person Specification
The ideal volunteer will be enthusiastic, approachable and committed to supporting young people. You may have a specific skill or interest you’d like to share, or simply a willingness to learn and get involved. Strong communication skills, reliability, and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. An interest in youth work, community development, or gaining practical experience in the sector is highly beneficial. Above all, candidates should demonstrate a caring attitude and uphold the centre’s values of respect, inclusivity, and community spirit.

Hours and Requirements
This role takes place during evening sessions, Monday through Thursday. While there is no minimum time commitment, volunteers must be dependable and communicate clearly regarding their availability and preferred sessions. Applicants are encouraged to indicate whether they are interested in general volunteering or specific sessions (Music Club, 8–12, 13–17, or 18–25 Youth Clubs). As the safety of our users is paramount, the successful applicant will be subject to a DBS check, and preference will be given to those who already hold a valid DBS certificate.
